The Woodland Orchestra

is the musical dimension of Woodland Crafts & Arts
a company that focuses on the sustainable and respectful use of the mother of all factories, namely:

WOODLANDS.

The Woodland Orchestra, in spirit, is you,
it is the air we breathe,
rustling leaves, it is .....

The WOODLAND ORCHESTRA, based in the Scottish Highlands, "began", in 1993, making drums out of native wood and deer hide for several reasons:

  • An offering of thanks to the GREAT CREATRIX.

  • Fun.

  • Peace.

  • A native beat research facility!

  • To celebrate the growing forest culture/permaculture.

  • To act as a forum where people can all speak at once and together through playing music together.

  • To give anybody a space to play a drum how they want to and from there learn about themselves.

The Orchestra began with sessions in the drum shelter amongst the Oak, Elm, Willow, Sycamore...
Owls, Deer...and children of Calrossie woods.
The rhythms played were not learned or taught but evolved out of the situation.
From here tunes and songs have grown.
The Woodland Orchestra's first album, DUNIA MOJA, is still available!
